BIO

Matthew Diffee has been contributing cartoons to The New Yorker magazine since 1999. Steve Martin says, “Matt is truly one of the funniest people in the rarified world of first-rate cartooning.” He has won the Silver Reuben award for gag cartooning from the National Cartoonists Society and his most recent book, Hand Drawn Jokes for Smart Attractive People was named an NPR book of the year. Diffee’s work has also appeared in Time Magazine, Esquire, The Believer and Texas Monthly where he was nominated for a James Beard award in journalism. He is the editor of volumes one and two of The Rejection Collection: Cartoons You Never Saw and Never Will See in The New Yorker published by Simon & Schuster. Beyond cartooning, he has done wide-ranging illustration work including a special collector’s edition of Stephen King’s novel, Under the Dome.

Diffee has performed on The Moth Mainstage and regularly speaks on the creative process at events like TEDx and South By Southwest and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes and on CNN, PBS, CBS, and NPR’s Fresh Air.
